2014: The Year of Travel, Writing and Survival

Um so when did it become 2014? Feels like only yesterday I was making plans for my America trip and Christmas. Now that’s all over and its a new year. And that means new things.

For me this year is all about travel. I have a HUGE trip ahead of me. My partner, Lyall, and I are leaving Australia for 6 months for the journey of a lifetime. We are going to America for a month followed by 5 months backpacking around Europe including going to La Tomatina and Oktoberfest. I’m so freaking excited.

I’ve only ever been overseas twice in my life. Two weeks in Bali, and three weeks in America, which only happened recently in November.

This is my BIG trip. Europe has been top on my list of traveling and I get to do it for 5 months! No working, just pure travel.

I also get to visit my TrekAmerica friends. The wonderful people I met on my America tour. I miss them.

The only downside to my travel plans this year is that I fear I won’t be able to publish another book unless its in the first half of this year and I have nothing remotely ready right now.

The plus side is that I can write heaps. I’m hoping to make up for my lack of publishing by pumping out 2-3 novels (first drafts) giving myself a lot to work with for 2015 where I hope to publish 2-3 novels.

I’d love to publish this year but the problem I face is that I won’t be taking my computer with me so I have no way of editing or making changes except on my tablet which isn’t great for that unfortunately.

I’m worried this will hinder me as an author. Do I need to have a constant flow of novels? I feel the answer is yes.

To compensate I really need to focus on writing more novels and marketing Djinn.

At the moment I’m contacting book bloggers for reviews and trying to get Djinn a higher ranking and more exposure. I’ll probably do a book tour of some sort in April-May.

I’m also trying to join others giveaways and competition. I’m willing to offer Djinn as a eBook prize to help get it out there more.

I know it will take at least a year to get a foothold in this author world. I have to work hard on it. And I think a hard part for me while I’m away will be remembering to promote Djinn. I’m worried I’ll forget about it, not that I want to focus all my time on it, but if I set half an hour once a day to promote Djinn then I’ll be happy.

The third big thing for me this year is that I’ve gotten into running. I went a little crazy this week and went on a Nike shopping spree. Now I am equipped and willing. I’ve been going for a jog/walk everyday. I want to get fit and be able to outrun a zombie in the apocalypse. If I learned anything from Zombieland: Cardio is key. Maybe I’ll shoot some guns in America to add more zombie surviving arsenal.

Anyway I think I’ve rambled enough for today.
Top things to get from this post:
1. I’m going overseas for 6 months!
2. I’m going to survive the zombie apocalypse through jogging and guns
3. I’m going to write 2-3 novels this year
4. Djinn is going to rise in the ranks of the author world through promotion, reviews, and the help of friends.

What are you doing in 2014? How will you survive the zombie apocalypse? Have you read Djinn yet?
